Turning excess natural treats to broth
If you're like me and get natural treats in bulk to save money, sometimes you can end up with more than you can store...
This happened to me last night, but there was no need to panic.
I just gave all 30 I couldn't fit in the container to the dog, Gobble Gobble Woof Woof 🦮🐕
I'm kidding! Never do that! 😂
I used them to make a bone broth.
This works for duck feet, duck/chicken necks too.
If you haven't done this before, it's easy.
Step one:
Soak the feet, hold them under water for 5 mins, or weigh them down.
Reason: This allows water to rehydrate them and get into all the nooks and crannys.
Step Two:
Transfer them into a slow cooker, using the same water, squeeze in some lemon juice or a squirt of organic apple cider vinegar.
Step Three:
Leave the slow cooker on Low for 12 hours.
Step Four:
Get a "masher" to pulp the mushy bones.
Step Five:
Leave it on low for another 6-12 hours.
Step Six: Drain it to separate bone remnants and the luxurious broth.
Step Seven: Let it cool.
Step Eight: Decant into a mason jar, and store in the fridge, if you have a lot, use soup freezer bags and freeze some.
Optional: You can use the bone remnants, using a hand blender, so they do into a paste. Use little silicone moulds of your choice, bake them and then use as little bone treats sparingly.
You can get as creative as you want with that, and mix in other ingredients for the treats.
I'm a big fan of nothing going to waste.
If this wasn't clear , because I have the articulation of a sponge, let me know.
I'll do a video version 😂
